Kumaon Vani 90.4 FM

📖 About

Kumaon Vani 90.4 FM is Uttarakhand's pioneering community radio station, established and operated by The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI) from the scenic Trisha Farm in Gram Supi, Ramgarh block, Nainital district. Officially launched on March 11, 2010, the station was conceived as a grassroots medium dedicated to addressing environmental sustainability, hill agriculture, rural livelihoods, and regional development in the Kumaon Himalayas. Living up to its catchy local slogan 'Apun Radio Apun Baat' (Our Own Radio, Our Own Conversations), the station gives a powerful voice to local farmers, women, youth, and indigenous communities across the hills. The station's comprehensive programming schedule is tailored specifically to the socio-cultural and ecological realities of the mountain region, broadcasting in Hindi and regional Kumaoni dialects. Key broadcast topics include sustainable agricultural practices, organic farming, climate change adaptation, public health awareness, local education, and women's empowerment initiatives. To preserve and celebrate regional heritage, Kumaon Vani features a rich selection of traditional Kumaoni folk music, storytelling, local cultural events, and interviews with community leaders and environmental experts. Reaching listeners across its terrestrial 90.4 FM coverage area in Nainital and surrounding rural belts, Kumaon Vani also extends its reach globally through high-quality 192 kbps MP3 online audio streams. As a flagship project of TERI, the station continues to serve as an exemplary model of environmental advocacy, participatory communication, and community empowerment in northern India.
