Akashvani Jodhpur

📖 About

Akashvani Jodhpur is a prestigious primary broadcasting center of All India Radio (Akashvani), operated under the aegis of India's autonomous public service broadcaster, Prasar Bharati. Inaugurated on August 15, 1965, the station was established to serve as the voice of Western Rajasthan, delivering vital news, public service broadcasts, and rich cultural programming to Jodhpur and surrounding districts across the Thar Desert region. Broadcasting primarily on Medium Wave 531 kHz AM, Akashvani Jodhpur plays a cornerstone role in bridging communication between government initiatives and the diverse rural and urban populations of the region. The station's programming spectrum is carefully crafted to serve the socio-cultural and educational needs of its audience, with broadcasts in both Hindi and Rajasthani (including regional dialects such as Marwari). A central pillar of its schedule consists of specialized agricultural and rural advisory broadcasts, weather forecasts, and market reports aimed at supporting regional farmers and pastoral communities. Alongside developmental programming, Akashvani Jodhpur is renowned for its preservation of traditional Rajasthani folk music, classical Indian music recitals, radio plays, literary discussions, and regional news bulletins, serving as a platform for local artists and scholars. As a vital unit of Prasar Bharati, Akashvani Jodhpur continuously evolves to serve contemporary audiences while maintaining its legacy as a trusted public broadcaster. In addition to its high-power terrestrial Medium Wave transmitter, the station's live broadcasts are extended globally via Prasar Bharati's digital WAVES platform and mobile applications. This dual transmission setup allows listeners in remote desert villages as well as the global Marwari diaspora to remain connected with the rich cultural heritage and daily updates of Western Rajasthan.
