📖 About

Akashvani Jaisalmer is the official radio broadcasting centre of All India Radio (AIR) located in the desert city of Jaisalmer, Rajasthan. Operating under Prasar Bharati, India's autonomous public service broadcaster, the station plays a fundamental role in serving the populace of western Rajasthan along the sensitive India–Pakistan border. Established on February 23, 1994, Akashvani Jaisalmer was created to fulfill strategic, cultural, and informational needs, bringing reliable regional and national news coverage to vast, sparsely populated desert regions. The station offers a diverse array of programming in Hindi and Rajasthani dialects tailored to the socio-cultural fabric of the Thar region. Its daily schedule features local and national news bulletins, agricultural and weather advisories for desert farmers, health awareness programs, educational shows, and public service broadcasts. In addition, Akashvani Jaisalmer is renowned for its promotion of traditional music, extensively featuring Rajasthani folk music, Manganiyar and Langa musical performances, classical Indian compositions, and popular Bollywood tracks via the national Vividh Bharati service. Broadcasting terrestrial FM signals on 101.8 FM from its studio complex at Akashvani Bhawan in Vyas Colony, the station bridges geographical barriers in western Rajasthan. Beyond traditional radio transmission, Akashvani Jaisalmer has expanded its digital reach through Prasar Bharati's WAVES platform and mobile applications, permitting listeners and diaspora across the globe to stream live regional desert radio programming online.
