📖 About

Akashvani Almora is a prominent public service broadcasting station of Akashvani (All India Radio), operated under India's public broadcaster, Prasar Bharati, from the historic hill town of Almora in the Kumaon region of Uttarakhand. Officially commissioned on June 15, 1986, the station was established to provide a reliable medium of information, education, and cultural entertainment to the rugged and picturesque Himalayan terrains of Uttarakhand. It serves as a vital communication link for local residents, connecting remote mountain communities with regional news and national developments. The station's diverse programming reflects the unique linguistic and cultural fabric of the region, broadcasting primarily in Hindi and regional dialects such as Garhwali and Kumaoni. Its daily schedule features national and regional news bulletins, public affairs discussions, educational segments, agricultural bulletins ('Kisan Samachar'), and a rich variety of Indian classical music, Bollywood tracks, and traditional folk songs ('Lok Geet'). Through special audience programs, Akashvani Almora caters directly to farmers, women, youth, and rural communities, fostering regional awareness and cultural pride. Broadcasting locally via a Medium Wave (AM) transmitter on 999 AM from its studios located on Mall Road, Khatyari, the station also extends its reach globally through digital HLS live audio streams on the official Prasar Bharati and NewsOnAir platforms. Upholding Prasar Bharati's guiding motto 'Bahujan Hitaya, Bahujan Sukhaya' (For the happiness of many, for the welfare of many), Akashvani Almora remains a trusted and cherished institution in the Kumaon hills.
