📖 About

BFBS Brunei 101.7 FM is a military and community-focused public service radio station operated by the British Forces Broadcasting Service (BFBS), part of the Services Sound and Vision Corporation (SSVC). Officially launched on March 8, 1979, the station was established to provide morale-boosting radio programming, news, and entertainment to British Armed Forces personnel, Gurkha soldiers, and their families stationed with British Forces Brunei (BFB) in the Sultanate. Operating out of studios at 37C Tuker Lines along Simpang 73 in Seria, Belait District, BFBS Brunei has served as an essential audio link between service members in Southeast Asia and their home communities in the UK and Nepal for over four decades. The station's daily broadcast lineup features a blend of locally produced military community shows, British popular culture updates, national news, and syndicated flagship BFBS UK network programming. Operating primarily in English, BFBS Brunei delivers breakfast and afternoon drive-time shows presented by local BFBS broadcasters stationed in Seria, alongside global news bulletins from BFBS Radio HQ and Forces News. Programming covers military welfare initiatives, base activities, sports updates, school events, and a popular mix of contemporary Top 40 pop hits, classic rock, and adult contemporary music. Broadcasting terrestrially on 101.7 MHz FM across Seria, Kuala Belait, and the surrounding military garrison areas, BFBS Brunei also reaches personnel globally via continuous 128 kbps AAC Icecast online digital streaming and the BFBS Radio mobile app. Alongside its main English-language service, BFBS also operates the dedicated BFBS Gurkha network on 89.5 FM in Seria, making BFBS a vital multi-channel broadcasting institution for the military ecosystem in Brunei.
