Officially launched on March 5, 1961, ZIZ holds the distinction of being part of the nation's oldest broadcasting network, playing a fundamental role in shaping the country's media landscape and documenting its post-colonial development. Owned and operated by the government-backed ZIZ Broadcasting Corporation, the station has historically served as the primary conduit for national announcements, emergency bulletins, and official state communications. The station's programming format is comprehensive and culturally rich, blending local and national news bulletins, current affairs discussions, community talk shows, and a diverse selection of music, with a strong emphasis on Caribbean rhythms, reggae, calypso, and local artists. ZIZ 96 FM caters to a broad demographic, ranging from government officials and community leaders to everyday citizens across Saint Kitts, Nevis, and the wider Caribbean diaspora. Notable coverage includes live broadcasts of major national public events, parliament sessions, cultural festivals like Carnival, and educational programs that address pressing social and economic issues. Broadcasting on the 96.1 FM frequency, ZIZ seamlessly bridges traditional terrestrial transmission with contemporary digital media, providing global online streaming through its official website and mobile access channels. As 'The Voice of the Federation,' the station remains an indispensable cultural institution, fostering national unity, preserving local heritage, and keeping citizens informed both at home and abroad.
