ZBVI Radio 780 AM

📖 About

ZBVI Radio 780 AM is the flagship commercial AM radio station and the only AM broadcaster operating in the British Virgin Islands. Broadcasting live from Road Town, Tortola, with its transmitter situated at Baughers Bay, the station officially hit the airwaves in 1965 after receiving its broadcast station license under Virgin Islands Broadcasting Limited. Operating on a clear-channel frequency of 780 kHz with a powerful transmitter delivering up to 10,000 watts daytime and 20,000 watts nighttime signal, ZBVI's broadcast footprint covers not only the British Virgin Islands and U.S. Virgin Islands, but extends across much of the Eastern Caribbean. Respected as a vital lifeline and primary news authority for the territory, ZBVI provides comprehensive news reports six days a week, hourly marine and land weather updates tailored for sailing and disaster preparedness, live sports coverage, and religious devotions. Its programming schedule features a balanced music format composed of Adult Contemporary hits, Caribbean rhythms, Calypso, Reggae, and oldies, as well as signature community shows like the long-running 'Knowledge Is Power' children's hour. Managed by Virgin Islands Broadcasting Limited under leadership including Managing Director Meritt Herbert and Manager Harvey Herbert, ZBVI remains an essential cultural and public service pillar connecting local islanders, mariners, and the global Caribbean diaspora via its online live streams.
