Weather Warlock

📖 About

Weather Warlock (Upstate edition) is a specialized, continuous generative ambient audio stream originating from Wave Farm in Acra, New York. At its core is a custom-built, weather-controlled analog synthesizer designed and engineered by the artist Quintron (evolving from earlier experimental prototypes like the 'Weather Witch' and 'Singing House'). Installed as a permanent outdoor and indoor fixture at Wave Farm's Art Park, the instrument translates real-time environmental phenomena into a continuous, evolving sonic experience. The station functions through a network of specialized outdoor sensors that constantly monitor meteorological metrics such as changes in sunlight, wind speed, precipitation, and ambient temperature. These live climatic inputs dynamically modulate the analog synthesizer's oscillators, transforming unpredictable natural elements into soothing, oceanic, and meditative ambient drone compositions. Because the music is entirely dictated by the shifting skies and weather patterns of Upstate New York, no two listening moments are ever identical, offering a mesmerizing real-time auditory reflection of nature. Operating 24 hours a day as part of Wave Farm's transmission arts property installations, Weather Warlock serves simultaneously as a stand-alone sound sculpture, a generative composition, an online web stream, and an interactive instrument utilized by visiting sound artists and radio programmers. Supported in part by major art foundations including the New York State Council on the Arts and the Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts, the station appeals to ambient music lovers, experimental sound art researchers, and global listeners seeking a therapeutic connection to the natural environment.
