WAKY

📖 About

WAKY (620 AM) is a commercial classic-hits and oldies radio station licensed to Louisville, Kentucky, simulcasting with WAKY-FM (103.5 MHz) to serve the greater Louisville metropolitan area and Kentuckiana. Originally signing on the air on August 10, 1958, under the call sign WTMT, the station spent decades airing a country music format before eventually adopting the historic WAKY call letters and transitioning to its current nostalgic classic-hits format. It carries a rich legacy tied to the historic Louisville radio market, embracing legendary heritage call letters that recall a bygone era of dominant Top 40 broadcasting. Programming on WAKY features a vibrant mix of timeless pop, rock, and soul oldies from the 1960s, 70s, and 80s, complemented by live announcers and special weekly features such as the popular 'Wayback Weekend'. In addition to its music programming, the station serves as a regional sports broadcaster, providing comprehensive coverage of University of Kentucky Wildcats football and basketball games. Owned by Wakyana LLC—a broadcast group led by industry veteran Randy Michaels—the station broadcasts via its main AM frequency alongside multiple FM translators to ensure wide coverage across Louisville and surrounding communities.
