📖 About

The Rocket 97.1 (WXRS, 1590 AM) is a well-established commercial classic hits radio station licensed to Swainsboro, Georgia, serving Emanuel County and the broader southeast Georgia region. Originally hitting the airwaves in 1978, the station has long served as a vital local media fixture, evolving through ownership and call letter variations—including operating temporarily as WRJS—before anchoring firmly into its current classic hits format branded as The Rocket. It bridges generations by delivering an energetic playlist filled with familiar pop, rock, and oldies anthems that resonate deeply with local listeners. Beyond its music programming, WXRS functions as an indispensable community megaphone, providing essential local news updates, weather forecasts, and comprehensive community announcements. A cornerstone of its localized appeal is its dedicated sports coverage, most notably broadcasting play-by-play action for Swainsboro Tiger high school sports. The station is also affiliated with major broadcast providers like Premiere Networks and United Stations Radio Networks, supplementing its localized content with professional syndicated programming elements. Owned and operated by Radiojones, LLC, The Rocket broadcasts via its core 1590 AM terrestrial signal alongside FM translators including 97.1 FM (W246BQ) and 93.5 FM (W228EB) to ensure wide signal clarity across Emanuel County. Accessible both over the air and globally via digital internet streaming platforms, the station successfully combines traditional hometown radio values with modern digital accessibility.
