Established in 1922 under the original call letters WCAH, the station carries a rich broadcast history as one of Ohio's oldest radio properties. It was acquired in 1929 by the Wolfe family, owners of the market-leading newspaper The Columbus Dispatch (with the call letters originally standing for 'Wolfe Bank Newspaper and Shoes'). For decades, the AM signal served as a powerhouse talk and entertainment outlet before transitioning into a dedicated sports format, functioning for years as the primary AM sister to its high-profile FM counterpart, 97.1 The Fan.
