📖 About

Sunny 106.9 (call sign: KRNO) is a prominent commercial FM radio station licensed to Incline Village, Nevada, and serving the greater Reno, Carson City, and Lake Tahoe broadcast regions. Originally signing on the air in July 1974 as the FM companion to KCBN, the station initially featured an easy-listening sound before shifting toward a soft adult contemporary and mainstream adult contemporary format during the 1980s. Over the decades, it has established itself as a primary workplace listening staple, known for playing popular feel-good pop hits and soft rock classics. For a period beginning in March 2014, the station rebranded as '106.9 More FM', but it triumphantly returned to its heritage moniker 'Sunny 106.9' in September 2022. Programming on Sunny 106.9 is heavily tailored toward adult listeners, offering continuous music flow with minimal interruption during the workday, making it a favorite across offices and homes in northern Nevada. In addition to its standard adult contemporary music rotation, the station is widely celebrated by local listeners for its seasonal programming flip, transforming into an all-Christmas music station every year during the holiday season. The station also features an HD2 subchannel that broadcasts classic rock under the branding '92.5 The Hog'. Owned and operated by Reno Media Group (Americom Limited Partnership), Sunny 106.9 operates from studios located on Matley Lane in Reno, with its transmitter situated high above on Slide Mountain to cover its expansive mountainous market. Through its primary frequency at 106.9 MHz as well as local FM translators—such as K258BN in Verdi and K292EP in Incline Village—the station reaches audiences across multiple valleys and alpine communities, remaining a cornerstone of commercial radio broadcasting in northern Nevada.
