Southside FM

📖 About

Southside FM is a community radio station based in Durban, KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa. It is the first Tamil and Telugu radio station in the country, launched in May 2022 to serve the South Indian community and promote Tamil, Telugu, English, and isiZulu music and culture [citation:3][citation:7]. The station was conceptualized in 2009 after community members identified the need for a dedicated platform for South Indian cultural content [citation:7][citation:17]. Southside FM broadcasts on 107.2 FM, with coverage reaching as far as Port Shepstone on the KZN South Coast, up to KwaDukuza in the north, and inland to Howick and Ixopo, and also streams live online [citation:7]. Despite facing significant financial challenges as a non-profit community station, it remains dedicated to preserving South Indian heritage through music, language, and dialogue, with programming that includes cultural shows, youth-focused content, and community engagement initiatives [citation:10][citation:13].
