SomaFM - Space Station Soma

📖 About

Space Station Soma is a widely acclaimed internet radio channel operated by the listener-supported, commercial-free net radio network SomaFM, broadcasting from San Francisco, California. Established as part of the broader SomaFM network—which was founded by Rusty Hodge in February 2000—Space Station Soma has become a premier destination for lovers of deep atmospheric sounds. The network itself takes its name both from the South of Market (SoMa) neighborhood in San Francisco and from the fictional drug in Aldous Huxley's classic novel 'Brave New World'. The channel specializes in spaced-out ambient, downtempo, and mid-tempo electronic music, leaning heavily on analog-inspired synthesizer compositions ranging from 1990 to the present day. Listeners are treated to a meticulously curated audio journey designed to evoke cosmic exploration, deep focus, and relaxation. By avoiding traditional commercial advertising entirely, the station relies solely on direct listener support and contributions to preserve its creative freedom and deliver uninterrupted, high-quality audio streams. As one of SomaFM's flagship and most popular offerings, Space Station Soma has built a dedicated global community of electronic music enthusiasts. Its programming bridges classic ambient textures with modern soundscapes, making it an ideal soundtrack for studying, stargazing, and long-haul tech work. Operating entirely online, the station exemplifies the enduring success of independent, human-curated internet broadcasting free from corporate algorithmic constraints.
