SomaFM SF Police Scanner is a live internet radio scanner channel providing real-time public safety and emergency-service radio audio from San Francisco, California. The station is operated by SomaFM, an independent, listener-supported and commercial-free internet radio broadcaster based in San Francisco. The SF Police Scanner channel focuses on live public-safety communications rather than music programming and can include police, fire, EMS and other emergency-service radio traffic. SomaFM states that the feed uses a Uniden Bearcat Trunktracker IV scanner, with priority given to the central and eastern areas of San Francisco. Due to changes in the citys digital public-safety radio system, most San Francisco Police Department traffic beyond initial dispatch is encrypted and is therefore no longer publicly accessible through the scanner feed. Fire and many non-police emergency-service channels remain accessible, making fire, EMS and other emergency communications a significant part of the current stream.
