📖 About

KPHR (106.3 FM), branded on-air as 'Power 106.3', is a commercial classic rock radio station licensed to Ortonville, Minnesota, and serving the Watertown and Big Stone Lake areas across eastern South Dakota and western Minnesota. First airing in 1997, the station has established itself as the leading rock broadcast station for the tri-state region. In August 2019, KPHR was acquired by Prairie Winds Broadcasting, Inc. from Armada Media as part of a multi-station cluster acquisition, operating under the local 605 Radio umbrella alongside sister stations KBWS-FM, KMSD, KDIO, and KJKQ. The station broadcasts an energetic Classic Rock format, playing essential hits from the 1970s, 1980s, and 1990s by rock icons such as AC/DC, Led Zeppelin, Aerosmith, Van Halen, Guns N' Roses, and Metallica, alongside hard rock classics. Programming features a mix of local on-air talent, regional weather updates, community event reporting, and live high school sports play-by-play coverage for local area teams. KPHR is also an official network affiliate for Minnesota Vikings football game broadcasts and United Stations Radio Networks content. Broadcasting in HD Radio with an effective radiated power of 50,000 watts from a 291-meter tower, KPHR covers broad territories across coding zones in both Minnesota and South Dakota. In addition to its primary classic rock service, KPHR utilizes its HD2 digital subchannel to broadcast a Soft Adult Contemporary format branded as 'Star 98.1' (simulcast via FM translator K251CX in Milbank, South Dakota). The primary channel is also streamed online worldwide via desktop and mobile apps.
