Ocean 98.1

📖 About

Ocean 98.1 (WOCM) is a commercial, independently owned radio station licensed to Selbyville, Delaware, and broadcasting out of Ocean City, Maryland. The station originally hit the airwaves in 1965 as WSBL before eventually taking on its current call letters, WOCM—which stand for 'We Are Ocean City, Maryland'. Owned and operated by Leighton Moore under Irie Radio, Inc., the station is famously headquartered on the second floor of the massive Seacrets entertainment complex along Assawoman Bay on 49th Street in Ocean City. This unique arrangement makes it one of the few radio stations in the nation operating directly inside a world-renowned beach resort and nightclub venue. WOCM broadcasts an eclectic Adult Album Alternative (AAA) mix featuring rock, reggae, indie, pop, and classic throwbacks. The station is widely recognized for its high-energy flagship morning show, 'The Rude Awakening Show,' hosted by long-time radio personality Michael 'Bulldog' Rothner alongside a rotating crew of co-hosts. In addition to daily morning irreverence and live local jocks seven days a week, Ocean 98.1 features specialty programming such as 'Island Time' reggae broadcasts and indie music spotlights like 'Next' with Chris Bro. WOCM was a pioneer in digital broadcasting, becoming one of the first independent stations in the United States to stream a continuous live video feed from inside its studio, allowing listeners worldwide to watch on-air hosts and visiting musical artists perform live. Broadcasting at an Effective Radiated Power (ERP) of 3,000 watts on 98.1 MHz, Ocean 98 serves the Delmarva Peninsula—including Ocean City, Salisbury, and the Delaware beach resorts—while maintaining a global web audience through its desktop and mobile streams.
