News Talk AM 970 WSTX

📖 About

News Talk AM 970 (call sign WSTX) is a landmark news, talk, and Caribbean culture radio station serving Christiansted and the entire island of St. Croix in the U.S. Virgin Islands. Originally signing on the air in 1971 under Virgin Islands Broadcasting Corporation, the station was later owned by Family Broadcasting, Inc. before being acquired in November 2010 by Caledonia Communication Corporation, led by prominent St. Croix attorney Kevin A. Rames. For over five decades, WSTX AM 970 has served as a foundational source of news, civic discussion, and public safety announcements across the territory. Broadcasting with a versatile format, WSTX AM 970 features localized news coverage, call-in public affairs talk shows, political commentaries, and community discussions during weekday hours. The station also celebrates native Virgin Islands heritage by integrating authentic Caribbean musical styles, including Calypso and Quelbe (the official traditional music of the U.S. Virgin Islands), into its daytime and evening lineup. On Sundays, the station transitions to spiritual programming, featuring local church service broadcasts, devotions, and gospel music. Operating from studios located at 2111 Company Street in historic downtown Christiansted alongside sister station WSTX FM 100.3, WSTX transmits on 970 kHz AM with a power output of 5,000 watts. In addition to its terrestrial AM signal covering St. Croix and neighboring waters, WSTX AM 970 maintains a 128 kbps digital stream, allowing Crucians at home and across the diaspora to stay informed and connected.
