La Kalle 99.9

📖 About

La Kalle 99.9 (broadcast via WHAT 1340 AM and FM translator W260CZ) is a commercial Spanish-language radio station licensed to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. With a history stretching back nearly a century, the underlying frequency was first launched on October 17, 1922, originally operating under the call sign WNAT before transitioning to WHAT in 1929. Throughout its legendary tenure in the Philadelphia media market, WHAT pioneered various formats and stands out historically for its trailblazing role in minority and ethnic broadcasting under long-term multi-decade ownership by the Banks family. In March 2020, VM Broadcasting LLC—headed by investor Matthew Braccili and programmer Victor Martinez—acquired the station and officially rebranded it as 'La Kalle 99.9'. The station features a vibrant, high-energy Spanish Contemporary Hit Radio and Latin tropical format, spinning a dynamic rotation of today's biggest reggaeton, salsa, merengue, bachata, and Latin pop hits. Its programming caters heavily to Philadelphia's growing Hispanic and Latino communities, combining continuous upbeat music rotation with culturally relevant entertainment features, local community news, and interactive segments. Broadcasting via a 1,000-watt AM signal paired with its clear 99.9 FM translator, La Kalle 99.9 provides robust coverage across the entire Philadelphia metropolitan area. Alongside its traditional radio presence, the station maintains an active digital footprint through online web streams, mobile apps, and social media outreach, cementing its status as an essential cultural and musical hub for Spanish-speaking listeners across the Delaware Valley.
