KWRD 1470 AM & 98.5 FM

📖 About

KWRD (1470 AM and FM translator 98.5 FM K253CE) is a commercial radio station licensed to Henderson, Texas, and serving the Henderson–Longview–Marshall market area. Originally constructed under a permit granted in late 1955 and officially signing on in August 1956 by founders Wesley R. Dean, Wilton W. Freeman, and Lynn J. Roy, the station has long served as a vital local media fixture for East Texas. Over the decades, ownership has transitioned through several broadcasters, including Jerry Russell and Hanszen Broadcasting, before being acquired by Zula Com, LLC (led by Tiffany, Kristi, and Monte Spearman) in May 2023. The station features a specialized format focusing on classic country music, Texas Country hits, and deep community-oriented programming. Weekday schedules highlight local updates, regional and national news, weather updates, and localized programs such as 'Good Morning Texas with Music & More' hosted by Mark McClain. Additionally, KWRD serves as a crucial local broadcast voice for high school sports, providing dedicated coverage of the Henderson Lions, alongside syndicated blocks like Paul Harvey's 'The Rest of the Story'. Operated under the E-Tex Radio Network umbrella, KWRD broadcasts with a daytime power of 5,000 watts and low-power nighttime capabilities, complemented by its FM translator at 98.5 MHz to ensure clear reception across Rusk County and surrounding areas. Listeners can tune in via standard AM/FM receivers, through the network's digital streaming infrastructure online, or via mobile streaming platforms, maintaining strong ties with both local residents and expatriate Texans worldwide.
