Operated under the banner of Chelsea Community Radio, LLC, the station serves as a localized media hub dedicated to providing a rich mix of classic hits, local news, and community updates. Its music format focuses on the greatest pop, rock, and soul hits of the 1960s, 1970s, and 1980s, striking a nostalgic chord with listeners who grew up during the golden eras of classic radio. In addition to its retro music rotation, Kool 96.9 FM distinguishes itself through strong civic engagement and localized programming. The station provides critical community information, local news coverage, and dedicated broadcasts of Chelsea High School sports, making it an essential local voice for residents in Shelby County and surrounding communities. Specialty programming, such as syndicated weekend retro shows like Greatest Hits USA, further enriches the broadcast schedule by offering listeners a deep dive into music history alongside entertaining commentary. Operating from its studios located on Narrows Parkway near Birmingham and Chelsea, the station bridges traditional community radio outreach with modern digital streaming platforms. By offering online audio feeds via its official website and mobile apps, Kool 96.9 FM ensures that local expatriates and classic music fans outside its terrestrial coverage footprint can stay connected to the Chelsea community.
