KELK 95.9 FM 1240 AM

📖 About

KELK (1240 AM) is a historic commercial radio station licensed to Elko, Nevada, serving Elko County and the surrounding northeastern Nevada region. Founded by local entrepreneur Harold Thompson, KELK officially signed on the air in December 1948 as Elko's very first and inaugural radio station. Over the decades, it has established itself as an indispensable local media institution, chronicling the growth, culture, and events of the region across generations of local operation under the Elko Broadcasting Company banner. The station features an accessible adult contemporary music format (often highlighted by its 'AC Pure' sound), mixing established soft pop and rock favorites from classic artists like Phil Collins, Rod Stewart, and Celine Dion with more recent contemporary artists. In addition to its music programming, KELK serves as a vital lifeline for the community by broadcasting timely local news updates, emergency announcements, regional weather reports, and dedicated sports coverage, deeply integrating itself into the daily routines of local residents. Broadcasting natively on 1240 AM with 1,000 watts of power, KELK's reach is further expanded via its FM translator K240AI on 95.9 FM, serving Carlin and the greater Elko area. Managed alongside several regional sister stations under the Elko Broadcasting Company, KELK combines traditional local terrestrial radio values with modern web streaming options, remaining a trusted voice for rural Nevada listeners both on the air and online.
