Classic KABL 960 Radio

📖 About

Classic KABL 960 Radio is an independent internet radio stream dedicated to recreating the golden era of San Francisco's legendary KABL 960 AM broadcast. Originally tracing its roots to station KFWM launching on July 8, 1925, and later becoming KROW in 1930, the historical 960 AM frequency gained iconic status on May 11, 1959, when broadcasting pioneer Gordon McLendon flipped the format to beautiful music and easy listening as KABL. For decades, KABL was famed for its serene harp glissandos, rich vocal standards, and famous mid-hour station IDs identifying as 'KABL, Oakland, on your San Francisco dial—960 in the air, everywhere'. Following corporate sales, terrestrial format changes, and eventual shifts of the original 960 AM frequency in the early 2000s, Classic KABL 960 Radio was launched online to preserve and honor the historical station's legacy. The digital stream carefully replicates KABL's original aesthetic by blending 1940s through 1960s easy listening instrumentals, big band swing, nostalgia, and Great American Songbook classics. The programming features timeless recordings by artists like Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Ella Fitzgerald, Glenn Miller, Stan Getz, and Nelson Riddle, interspersed with vintage KABL station jingles, original station IDs, and nostalgic spoken-word station prompts. Broadcasting worldwide from the Bay Area via online streaming services, Classic KABL 960 Radio serves a dedicated community of retro music lovers and San Francisco Bay Area natives. The station incorporates specialty syndicated broadcasts such as Trish Bell's 'The Sounds of Sinatra' and 'Sunday Sounds' alongside vintage KABL Martini Lounge segments, keeping the rich broadcasting history and smooth mid-century audio aesthetic of San Francisco alive for modern digital audiences.
