📖 About

Catholic 540-AM (call sign WETC) is a non-commercial, listener-supported Catholic radio station licensed to Wendell–Zebulon, North Carolina, and serving the greater Raleigh-Durham-Fayetteville metropolitan region across central and eastern North Carolina. Originally signing on the air on June 16, 1959, as a 250-watt daytime station, WETC underwent several owner and format changes over decades of operation. In August 2018, non-profit organization Divine Mercy Radio, Inc., acquired WETC for $850,000, establishing the signal as a dedicated regional broadcast hub for Catholic media and evangelization. The station's program schedule combines national content from EWTN Global Catholic Radio and Ave Maria Radio alongside locally produced faith-based talk, teaching, and youth programming. Notable network broadcasts carried include 'Called to Communion', 'The Doctor Is In', 'Take 2 with Jerry and Libby', and 'Catholic Answers Live', supplemented by daily broadcasts of the Holy Mass, the Rosary, and the Chaplet of Divine Mercy. WETC also produces and broadcasts community news, local interviews, and regional event coverage tailored to the Catholic Diocese of Raleigh and central North Carolina communities. WETC operates on the low-frequency 540 kHz AM band with a daytime transmission power of 10,000 watts and a nighttime power of 4,400 watts from its directional antenna array in Rolesville, North Carolina. Because of its low dial position and strong power rating, the signal reaches across a significant portion of eastern and central North Carolina. To expand local coverage in eastern Wake County, WETC's signal is also simulcast on sister station WPJL 1240 AM in Knightdale. The station is fully funded through listener donations and non-profit underwriting.
