📖 About

96.1 WHNN (WHNN-FM) is a prominent commercial radio station licensed to Bay City, Michigan, and serving the greater Saginaw, Bay City, Midland, and Flint regions. Having first signed on the air on November 1, 1947, under the original call sign WBCM-FM, the station has a rich broadcasting history across Michigan's Great Lakes Bay Region. Over the decades, it has evolved through various popular formats—most notably as an adult contemporary staple known as 'Sunny 96' during the 1980s with its 'Lite Rock, Less Talk' branding, and later shifting into a classic hits and adult contemporary mix. Owned and operated by Cumulus Media as part of its Saginaw cluster alongside sister stations like WIOG, WKQZ, and WILZ, WHNN broadcasts with a strong signal targeting mid-Michigan listeners. Its contemporary programming strategy focuses on an upbeat mix of popular adult contemporary hits, pop favorites, and nostalgic throwbacks from the 1980s, 90s, and today. In addition to its standard musical rotation, the station is widely celebrated for its annual holiday tradition where it completely flips its playlist every December to broadcast 100% all-Christmas music, capturing a massive seasonal audience across the local market.
