📖 About

1290 GLI is a dedicated internet-only memorial radio station that serves as a digital tribute to the former WGLI 1290 AM, a historic broadcasting outlet once located in Babylon, New York. Operated and curated by volunteers and amateur radio enthusiasts through the 1290 GLI Amateur Radio Club, the station broadcasts from Northport, New York, utilizing platforms like Live365 to keep a cherished piece of Long Island broadcasting history alive. Its programming is deeply rooted in nostalgia, featuring a core music library inspired by WGLI's vibrant mid-1970s format while expanding its sonic footprint to span timeless oldies from the 1950s all the way through to current contemporary hits. In addition to its automated continuous music rotation of classic rock, pop, and retro favorites, the station features specialty programming such as Jay Donovan's 'Oldies Cafe' show, which airs on Sunday evenings. These special broadcasts provide listeners with curated selections, engaging commentary, and a genuine throwback radio experience. Designed for former fans of the original AM station, local history enthusiasts, and lovers of classic 20th-century American pop music, 1290 GLI successfully bridges generations, offering a warm community-driven digital hub for global listeners.
