📖 About

WMAL-FM (105.9 FM) is a prominent conservative talk radio station licensed to Woodbridge, Virginia, and serving the entire Washington, D.C. metropolitan area. The station originally signed on the air on December 25, 1958, as WBVA, before cycling through various formats and call signs over the decades—including country music as 'Kix 106' (WPKX-FM), classic rock as WCXR-FM, and smooth jazz as WJZW. In January 2011, Cumulus Media shifted the legendary WMAL talk programming brand—previously anchored solely on 630 AM—onto the 105.9 FM frequency, eventually making the FM channel the primary home for its broadcasting lineup. The station features a powerhouse lineup of local and nationally syndicated conservative talk programming, serving as a vital media and political hub in the nation's capital. Notable programs include the local morning drive-time show 'O'Connor & Company' hosted by Larry O'Connor, 'The Chris Plante Show', alongside other prominent national syndicated commentators. Catering to politically engaged listeners across D.C., Maryland, and Virginia, WMAL combines breaking news updates, traffic reports, and deep-dive political commentary, maintaining a formidable presence in American talk radio.
