101.7 The Beach

📖 About

KCDU (101.7 FM), branded on-air as '101.7 The Beach', is a commercial Top 40 / Contemporary Hit Radio (CHR) station licensed to Carmel, California, and serving the greater Monterey–Salinas–Santa Cruz area. Tracing its history back to the mid-1970s when it originally signed on as KLRB, the station underwent several format and call letter transitions over the decades—including periods as adult contemporary KWAV and smooth jazz standard channels—before officially adopting the KCDU call letters and 'The Beach' brand in the early 2000s to target younger and adult pop music listeners across the Central Coast. In July 2019, Stephens Media Group acquired KCDU alongside its sister radio stations from Mapleton Communications, integrating the station into its nationwide broadcast portfolio. Operating under the slogan 'Today's Hit Music', 101.7 The Beach features a vibrant playlist packed with current pop, dance, hip-hop, and chart-topping hits from world-renowned artists such as Taylor Swift, Bruno Mars, Ariana Grande, Post Malone, and Dua Lipa. The daily broadcast schedule combines high-energy music blocks with syndicated morning entertainment, lifestyle features, and local news updates. Broadcasting with an effective radiated power of 6,300 watts from its transmitter located atop Mount Toro, KCDU delivers a robust signal across Monterey, Santa Cruz, and San Benito counties. The station operates out of its broadcast studios situated on Garden Court in Monterey, California, maintaining a strong presence in the local community through concert promotions, charity initiatives, and digital streaming platforms.
